CCI Mini-mag .22LR

The Mini-Mag .22lr is loaded in either:

  • 40-grain (2.6 g) copper-plated round nose bullet (CPRN #0030)
  • 36-grain (2.3 g) copper-plated hollow point bullet (CPHP #0031)

The Mini-Mag has a stated velocity of 1,235 ft/s (376 m/s) which then classifies it as a High Velocity round.  This must not be confused with the CCI Stinger Hyper Velocity round (1640fps).  The CCI Standard Velocity round is 1070fps.

The copper-plating reduces lead fouling, which can make plinking with this load favorable over conventional lead bullets.

CCI Mini-mag CPHPThe 40gn CPRN fed flawlessly in the Remington 597 semi-auto.  CCI Mini-mag CPRNThe 36gn CPHP did have 3 failure to feed (FTF) over a 100 round string (3%).  These FTF were attributed to the slightly flatter nose shape of the HP bullet(left).  The nose seemed to be catching on the upper edge of the chamber in each of the FTF.  The CPRN bullet (Right) however seemed to feed without any problems.

Both rounds on test fed perfectly from the standard 10 round magazine with zero jams in the magazine.  Unlike other .22 rounds that have a waxy coating to protect them, there was no waxy coating present on these rounds which seemed to help the feeding.

Accuracy was good with a 25mm grouping easily achievable at 25m with the Remington 597 rifle.

Price varies between £8-£10 per brick of 100 CCI Mini-mag rounds depending on the retailer.
